Location: South-West Coast District is a rural electorate located south-west of Melbourne.
Size: 5,834 square kilometres.
Region: Western Victoria Region
Towns include: Heywood, Koroit, Macarthur, Nelson, Port Fairy, Portland and Warrnambool.
South-West Coast District includes part of the western district, one of the most fertile dairying and pastoral areas in Victoria. Industries include the manufacture of cheese, butter and other dairy products, vegetable growing, cattle and sheep farming, aluminium smelting and tourism.
Features: The Glenelg National Park and coastal towns attract large numbers of tourists.
The electorate is becoming a hub of renewable energy, with a number of wind farms already in the electorate, with further planned, while work is underway on other renewable energy projects, such as geothermal, gas and wave energy.
History: South West Coast was formed as part of a redistribution of electorate boundaries in 2001 and takes in parts of the old seats of Portland and Warrnambool.
Denis Napthine has held the seat since 2002, having previously been the member for Portland.
