$500,000 FIRE STATION OPENS AT YAMBUK

13th November 2011

A new $500,000 fire station for the community of Yambuk has been officially opened by the Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine.

Dr Napthine said the new Yambuk Fire Station would play a major role in fire management and prevention in the region.

"For the residents of Yambuk and beyond, this new fire station represents an investment in community safety and will better equip the brigade to continue providing essential emergency services for many years to come," Dr Napthine said.

"This modern station replaces an outdated building and incorporates sustainable features including a 22,500-litre water tank."

Dr Napthine said the 72-year-old brigade and its 55 members played an important role in the community.

"Throughout the years, members have been vigilant in fire prevention in their area of responsibility, particularly along the Princes Highway and Fingerboard Road," Dr Napthine said.

"The brigade also should be acknowledged for its role in developing important community education initiatives for local children and young people for the past 10 years.

"The annual Yambuk Kids Day has been very successful and includes a variety of fun activities for children aged four to 16 who have fun while learning all about fire safety."

Dr Napthine said Yambuk Fire Brigade had a proud history of success and had demonstrated its skills at a number of major events.

"The Yambuk Brigade has been highly active in championship competitions, winning the aggregate at the Region 5 championships at Port Fairy in 1980, and twice winning a Conduct and Discipline award at state championships level, including last year at Purnim," Dr Napthine said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Police and Emergency Services Peter Ryan said CFA members were leaders in Victorian communities and dedicated to protecting lives and property.

"Local volunteer agencies such as the Yambuk Fire Brigade are the backbone of Victoria's emergency service response," Mr Ryan said.

"The Victorian Coalition Government is investing $65.8 million towards 60 new or upgraded CFA stations and rolling out 101 new firefighting vehicles this financial year alone as part of an overall commitment to build and upgrade 250 CFA stations across Victoria by November 2014."
